The South African Journal of Information Management is written for an international readership of researchers, developers and Internet users in educational, business and professional environments. The Journal publishes articles that are well written, timely and insightful in the areas of research and development as they relate to Information Management theory, technologies, applications and services.

The purpose of the Journal is to publish, in digital format only, high-quality, peer-reviewed articles in numbered issues, four times a year, to reach academic staff, researchers, practitioners and students in the fields of, inter alia, knowledge management, record management, strategic management, information economy, data mining, data warehousing and any IT-related issues.

For responses to specific articles, please use the Correspondence facility. Articles are archived and made available on a permanent basis via the World-Wide Web.

Submission methods

1. URL submission: URL submissions must be in text or HTML format. Files must be viewable online and must not be compressed or encoded. Do not e-mail your URL; indicate in an e-mail the exact URL where your paper is located.

2. E-mailed file submissions: E-mailed submissions must be in MS Word, RTF, or Text/ASCII format. All files submitted must be uncompressed. No ZIP, SIT, etc. files will be accepted. Attach all related files to a single e-mail message.

General guidelines

The peer-reviewed articles submitted for publication should present original research (i.e. not previously published), novel synthesis, or judicious review of current theory, method, policy, or practice in the fields of, inter alia, information systems management, information economy, strategic management, records management, information management, knowledge management and Web management.

All papers must be in English. Write with precision, clarity and economy. Use the active voice whenever appropriate. Use British spelling, for example behaviour, nor behavior.

Originality

All manuscripts must be original. No manuscript will be considered which has already been published or is being considered by another journal. When work described in conference proceedings is substantially revised and extended, it will however be considered for publication. By submitting a manuscript, the author certifies that the article is not being considered for publication nor has it been published elsewhere.

Handling of manuscripts

All manuscripts are acknowledged upon receipt. Review is carried out as promptly as possible. The manuscript will be reviewed by at least two anonymous experts. When a decision for publication or rejection is made, the first author or author designated to receive correspondence is notified.

Abstract

Each article should include an informative, comprehensive abstract of 75 to 200 words. This abstract should succinctly summarise the major points of the article.

Keywords and key phrases

Four to five keywords or key phrases may be furnished.

Mechanical requirements

The length of an article should not exceed 7000 words. Use as little formatting as possible in the manuscript. Do not use a word processor's 'style sheets'.

Artwork (screenshots, charts, graphs, tables, printouts, illustrations, photographs)

All artwork must be submitted as JPEG, GIF or TIFF files. The location of all artwork must be indicated in the text. All artwork must be cited in the text, be numbered, and have self-explanatory captions. Use the Table feature of your word processor for charts and tables.

References

Authors are responsible for checking the accuracy of all references and that all references cited in the text also appear in the Reference section. All references should be in alphabetical order by author.

All contributions are welcome but the Scientific Editor reserves the right to decide on the publication of all contributions.

The peer-reviewed articles submitted for publication should present original research (i.e. not previously published), novel synthesis, or judicious review of current theory, method, policy, or practice in the fields of, inter alia, information systems management, information economy, strategic management, records management, information management, knowledge management and World-Wide Web management.

Article submission, review, and publication are accomplished entirely electronically. Subscribers will be notified by e-mail when a new issue has been published.

Published since June 1999, it is circulated to scientists and practitioners worldwide. The management will maintain the standard required for international indexing services.

Articles are citable. Peer-reviewed articles are archived for permanency.
