Asia-Pacific Co-operative Programme in Reading Promotion and Book Development (APPREB)
APPREB is a UNESCO network programme for stimulating the flow and exchange of information in
the book sector in the Asia-Pacific region. It assists in the development of local initiatives, and
aims to improve the state of publishing and promote the reading habit. The APPREB Web site contains
a variety of news on publishing and book development, publishing statistics in charts or pictures,
archives of articles and reports of special interest, and a bulletin board to share ideas and
experiences. There are also links to book-related organizations in the region, an events calendar,
and a useful ‘Trends in Books and Reading’ section provides news and articles covering the state
of books and reading in the Asia-Pacific region.

The British Council: Promoting Publishing Worldwide
A wide variety of useful resources can be found at this British
Council site: development of local book trade capacity in
developing countries, training programmes and workshops, details
of exhibitions and book fairs, as well as information on support
to UK publishing and bookselling, publishing market information,
an index of UK publishers by subject specialization, and other

Information Programme
Part of the Open Society Institute/Soros Foundations Network, the
Center's mission is to foster the development of independent
publishing industries in East Europe and Central Asia. The site
provides access and download facilities to a number of practical
guides for publishers and booksellers, such as John Hitchin's Planning
the Opening and Running of a Bookshop, Lynette Owen's Buying
and Selling Rights in Literary Works, Brian Green's Bar
Coding for Books, the ISBN User's Manual, a glossary
of book trade terminology, and a list of selected curricula of

Centre for Publishing Studies, University of Stirling
Provides full information about study at Stirling (course
coverage, facilities and equipment, joining the course, research
focus etc.). The Centre, set up in 1982, remains the only
institution in the UK solely dedicated to post-graduate

Green Ink
Green Ink, a networked group of writers, editors, translators, and designers, provides publishing services in the field of rural research and development. It offers a complete range of publishing 'packages'-from creating the concept, gathering information, writing, editing, commissioning and reviewing, translating, designing, producing camera-ready copy (on disk or as hardcopy), through to printing and delivery of finished copies.

Learned Publishing
This is the quarterly journal of the Association
of Learned and Professional Society Publishers and is a marvellous resource for articles and
reports about the latest developments in scholarly publishing,
including many articles on electronic publishing, Web strategies
for professional and scholarly publishers, Web marketing, digital
printing, and much more. There is currently (January 2001) no
charge or registration requirement, and you can access, and print
out if you wish, the full text of any articles from volume 10
(1997) onwards in different full text format delivery options. Learned
Publishing is also an excellent resource for journal
