Search Engines and Effective Searching
By the end of this unit participants will be able to:
- Explain why effective searching is important
- List the types of information available online
- Describe the main features of search engines and how they work
- Plan and carry out an effective search
Subject-based Information Gateways
By the end of this unit participants will be able to:
- Describe what an subject-based information gateway (SBIG) is
- List the main features of SBIGs
- List the strengths and weaknesses of SBIGs
- Describe the differences between SBIGs and other information finding tools
- Use SBIGs to access information
Using the Internet for Teaching, Learning and Research
By the end of this unit participants will be able to:
- Describe the different types of online resource
- List typical tasks that can be completed using online information
