The African Journal of AIDS Research (AJAR) is a new journal that publishes papers which make an original contribution to the understanding of the social dimensions of HIV/AIDS in African contexts. Any papers relating to impact, care, prevention and social planning will be considered for publication. This will include papers from the disciplines of sociology, demography, epidemiology, psychology, anthropology, media, cultural studies, nursing and social work. Papers on social theory and the politics of HIV/AIDS will also be considered for publication. AJAR will be published quarterly and will include regular research and review articles of 5 000 to 10 000 words. AJAR will also reserve space in each edition for concise 2 000 world articles which are submitted for rapid publication. Papers will be accepted on the understanding that their contents have not been published or submitted for publication elsewhere. All submitted papers will be refereed by at least two appropriately qualified referees and the review process will be overseen by an Editorial Review Board. An Editorial Advisory Board including African and international experts will advise the Editorial Review Board on key editorial issues. The Journal will be managed by the Centre for AIDS Development, Research and Evaluation.
