African Books Collective (ABC)
The Oxford-based, African-owned book marketing and distribution
organization. ABC's Web site includes the complete on-line
catalogue, title information, the ABC Newsline, author

African Publishers' Network (APNET)
A Pan-African network of national publishers'associations founded
in 1992. Its Web site provides information about APNET's mission,
activities, training programmes, members/member countries, APNET
publications, training consultants, and details of special APNET

Asia/Pacific Cultural Centre for UNESCO
Encourages cultural co-operation through literacy promotion, book development, and co-publishing of children's books.

Asia Foundation Programs - Books for Asia (BFA)

Association for the Development of Education in Africa
(ADEA) - Working Group on Books and Learning Materials
Committed to supporting processes conducive to the formation of

Bellagio Publishing Network (Research & Information
Center)
An informal association of donors and organizations dedicated to
strengthening indigenous publishing and book development in the
Third World. Its counterpart, the Bellagio Group Secretariat,

Book Aid International
The major UK book aid charity which works in partnership with
organizations in developing countries to support literacy,
education, training and publishing, by providing books and other

Booklinks
‘Booklinks’ has replaced Partners in African Publishing (PIAP) with
its mission being to ‘support the growth of sustainable partnerships in book
development’ and ‘strengthen links between librarians, publishers and
booksellers’.
Bridge to Asia Foundation
Provides informational materials, books and journals, and
research and document-delivery services, to institutions and

British Council (Publishing and information pages)
The British Council supports a number of initiatives to promote
indigenous publishing and training for the book industries in

The Centre for the Book South
Africa
Promotes a reading culture in South Africa, and actively

Centro Regional para el Fomento del Libro en America Latina
y el Caribe (CERLALC)
The Regional Centre for Book Development in Latin America and the
Caribbean promotes publishing and book development in these
regions, encourages the reading habit, and aim to protect

CODE [formerly Canadian Organization for Development
through Education]
CODE is dedicated to supporting literacy and education, and
indigenous publishing initiatives in Africa and Central/South

Congress of Southeast Asian Librarians (CONSAL)
CONSAL's Web site provides a portal for the book and library communities in Southeast Asia, and represents some 100 library consortiums and associations in the region. It also offers news about CONSAL activities, events, conferences, and a range of resources. (The site requires registration).

The Heinrich Böll Foundation
The Heinrich Böll Foundation promotes informed democratic
opinion, social-political commitment and mutual understanding,
and supports artistic, cultural, and scholarly projects and
co-operation in the development field. In supports various
projects in Africa, Asia and Latin America, particularly
promotion of women and gender democracy, ecologically sustainable
development, organization-building, support for independent

Humanity Libraries Project A project which aims to provide massive information diffusion to developing countries through low-cost `libraries' on CD-ROM. The CD-ROM Humanity Development Library 2.0 for Sustainable Development and Basic Human Needs contains 160,000 pages from some 3,000 books and full-text journal articles and is available for only $13 for developing countries. Southern African Book Development Education Trust (SABDET)
Working with partners in Africa and internationally, SABDET seeks
to support and strengthen co-operation in book publishing and

Supports libraries in developing countries by providing

Zimbabwe International Book Fair/Zimbabwe International
Book Fair Trust
The site of Africa's leading international book fair, with full
information on associated events, workshops, seminars, and
cultural events that are held each year coinciding with the Fair.
